i want to work as a front desk agent at a hotel or somewhere where i could get customer service skills. the problem is that im shy. actually, i just dont speak very much. this is due to the fact that english is only my second language and at times i either find myself unable to express myself in english or i run out of things to say, so i end up being quiet most of the time. and as a result, i come across as a shy person. i really want to have customer service experience but would it be very difficult for someone with a personality like mine?

yeah, my lack of confidence in speaking english is my main concern. i worry that when customers complain, they would outtalk (is that a word?) me and leave me speechless. i really want to get customer service skills as early as possible so it would be less difficult for me to find a job after college.

do it!
dont be scared!
its the only way you will be assertive and once you're in the job, you will learn to be more open and outgoing and you will come out of your shell.
being scared is stopping you from achieving your dreams so DO IT ... go for the job!!
HOPE YOU GET IT :]

It is really good to have goals, but you are not talking about a personality type. You are talking about a lack of confidence in your abilities when it comes to speaking English. This is something completely different, and I would recommend getting more confident in English first. This way you can walk in to a hotel job with a great benefit, and that is being bi-lingual. A lot of hotels love it when a person can speak several languages it makes a person more unique, and versitile. Working the front desk or any customer service job requires confidence, learning attitude, motivation, patience, and most important initiative. These are skills people must have, and it can not be taught you simply have to be this type of person. Shyness is a shell easily broken, and I think you will find the hospitality industry offers many training classes to help with that type of personality. However all the rest that I have listed above cannot be trained, and who ever interviews you, you will find the interview to extensive, will be able to spot any of those weaknesses right away.

It would probably be difficult to obtain a position, unless you learn to come out of your shell in the interviews. But I think once you get the position you'll be fine. My husband is really quite shy and he's a receptionist, and he's like a completely different person when he's on the desk. You just do what the job demands of you. You get over it quickly when forced! Good luck with it!

Why dont you get some family and friends to help you like practice. You can do that kind of job if you put your heart and mind to it.
I'm shy but alittle at a time i learnt how to work in the public and there are some really good people out there who will understand.
Go ahead and put you heart in it and tell yourself you will accomplish a good experiance in the customer service jobs.
Everything takes time and in some time you will be Great at it !!!

Definitely.
As a customer I always get fascinated by shy person at the desk!
Donot worry from language point of view. People do understand and really appreciate when they see someone trying a 'second language'.
Be confident. That's what matters.
good luck!!

Forget about your shyness.. stop telling yourself you're shy.
How many things have you thought you'll never be able to do, and then it became a piece of cake ?
It is normal to be shy at first.. we fear the unknown, you know.. so the first step is the most important, once you get over it you'll be fine, it will be something you're used to doing...
Keep in mind that you have to overcome shyness, to earn your living
Best of luck :)
