thinking of doing a short course run by the CAI on aerial & dish installations, then work for myself, is this a viable idea? can anyone advise me on the plus & negatives of this idea

I've heard that dishes will be disappearing from our homes in the not to distant future, I'm sure Sky would like everything delivered to homes by cable(ie broadband), eventually every house will have a fibre optic connection once a cheap electrical/optical converter has been invented.

a good business to get into though, been in comms since joining army at 16 now 34 and building broadband networks

You use the word Engineer inappropriately, You would be an Aerial and Satellite Dish Installation Technician.
