It is required financial info - read the annual report - usually downloadable from the investor relations section of their website.


That info is also available from lots of sources - some free - some from your broker - some you pay for.

If Shares are hard to find then find Price which is easy to find and Market Cap which is also widely available and use the formula ....

Shares * Price = Market Cap

Companies buy back and give away (options and grants) shares all the time so number of shares is an approximate not exact figure.

Actually, there are two different numbers that you might need to consider. Number of issued shares and number of authorized shares. The number of issued shares are found in the 10k and 10Q filings of the company. The filings can be found on Edgar for most companies. They are also widely reported in financial web sites such as Yahoo Finance. However, the number is reported by the company only every quarter so there is a lag of time during which the company may issue or buy back shares that are not included in the total. The authorized shares are the number that the company is allowed to issue. I believe it is also reported in the 10k filings.

You divided the Net Income/earings per share which will give the number of shares outstanding.
