I don't think that gender plays a role in it.
It takes the best to do the job.
In Germany they have a female prime minister:good on her.
And since politics is mostly a men's game, she must be so much better.
I would like to see more piece loving people in office all over the world.

Both genders can be great, but both can also be cruel and ruthless...
In history, male leaders outnumber their female counterparts by a light-year, so it's not really very easy to create a good comparison on the track record.
There have been great male leaders:
Winston Churchill
George Washington
ad infinitum...
And ruthless ones:
Joseph Stalin
Adolf Hilter
etc.
Great female leaders:
Mother Theresa
Condi Rice
etc.
Ruthless ones:
Not very popular I guess... But I can think of the nameless women in rape helpdesks who ask the victims why they allow themselves to be raped... Or the female soldiers in Iraq who oppressed their prisoners of war.
Now it seems that women who have evil agenda have not yet arisen to the point of notoreity and proved that some women could be as heartless as some men. But you can derive your own conclusions from this, since based on statistics, we only have a handful of female leaders for a barrelful of men...

Not the gender, but the characteristics of the individual make for a good leader. There are many great men leaders as well as female....I could list many examples, some you may agree with others not.

My ideal group of leader's would be in perfect balance. For every man a woman. I think that by having both male and female points of view the decisions made for society would be more well rounded. For example both men and woman would be conscious of the other and both would strive to do the best job they could. So two presidents not man and wife but male and female. Every person in every office should have the opposite sex in the same position. Forced concience if you will. If you need references google paganism.

Your use of the word "community" is key in this question, and generally speaking, women take the lion's share of responsibility in their own surroundings and those of their families. Therefore my answer is "a woman makes a better community leader".

Women because they are egoless in their value sytems more often. hey try to serve the basic needs of people instead of aquisition. The society needs both kinds of people . women close to community needs and men running the state and economy.Women make better informal opinion leaders , are less confrontational.

A gender does not make someone a good leader.Leadership skills do.And a better leader is one with better skills to lead and not what gender they are.

I was brought up to believe that men and women were equally valuable...so I can't make the choice that you offer me. The best person for the job is the best person for the job.

It isn't what's between the legs, it's what's between the ears that makes or breaks a leader.
