I have a failing Maxtor DiamondMax9 (160 GB) hard drive that I need to replace and want to know what is the BEST quality hard drive out there?
I'm looking for a SATA drive that is at least 250 GB. I have a slim computer case so cool operating temperature (low power consumption) and reliability are more important than absolute performance.

Try western digital. Ive lost 2 maxtor hard drives myself and replaced them with WDs and had no problems.

How about the absolute best?

How about a 400GB SATA for $130? WITH FREE SHIPPING!

Nothing beats the performance of a Seagate!
Have a couple TB's of them and never had one issue. (except one lost check for a rebate, but made good and gave me a free drive for the inconvenience!)
This has 7200 RPM, 16MB Buffer, 5 year warranty... what else do you need? (except maybe 2 of them :) )

Western Digital drives are great, try the Caviar series, the serial ATA2 drives are very appealing.
