It promotes the mentality of Cinderella: passive, nice, silent and beautiful outsider girl waiting for her prince on the white horse. He will certainly come, she just have to be patient - of course under one single condition: she MUST be beautiful. What about the real life? How many real prostitutes succeed in their lives? How many of them got killed, or died form AIDS or drugs? How many such good and nice clients are in this world? And of course, rich ones? And, what about girls who are not beautiful?
Excellent question and really an appropriate one for this section. Thank you.

I am not against prostitution and I live in a country where it is legal (Netherlands) and where prostitutes have legal protection against exploitation. But I found the representation of the streetwalker in that movie highly idealistic. I am aware that this movie was also made for a younger audience and that a more realistic view might have been disturbing.

I haven't watched this film for years. From what I remember the prostitue was portrayed as vulnerable and in need of a good man to look after her. Whilst both main characters were portrayed positively, men in general were portrayed as pigs who 'spoiled' the prostitute who was otherwise a 'pretty woman' in need of a 'good man' (apparently good men are hard to come by).

Finding love when neither
person was trying to find
a mate.
Good girl from the country learns from her roommate how to survive as a prostitute in the city. Divorced wealthy male needs an escort without hiring from a service. (too indiscreet) He happens to be her first client.

Yes. 99 percent of all street prostitutes are actually very beautiful and highly educated with a 0 percent history of drug use, STDs, or antisocial behaviour.
Statistically, if a man can find one and liberate her from her understanding pimp, then successfully alter her clothing preferences to a more conservative modality, a more stable and long-lasting marital union can result.
Unfortunately, as the majority of prostitutes tend to vote conservative and hold conservative values, the liberal media tends to highlight the 1 percent who are drug and disease ridden crack whores as being representative of the norm.
So, now that you know the truth, withdraw about $300 in USD from your closest ATM and go downtown or to the docks and go find your future kids' mommy.
Cheers, Mate.

The representation is pure fantasy and the film is quite clearly a fairy tale.

This misrepresented and glorified prostitution. Any young girl following this role model would have been greatly let down.

I'm afraid that was just a film and she was very lucky. Mostly, no doubt, it is hard work pretending to like fat guys with lots of money while they sh** you.
