i just got a tongue ring last week. and the piercer didn't have a 1 inch barbell for me. so i got the shortest one. will that infect my tongue in anyway? i kept eating ice to keep the swelling down. will iti get infected because of that?

The gauge of the jewelry is not a factor in infection. You do need to watch for rejection until the swelling has gone down. WASH YOUR HANDS and inspect both the top and the bottom of your tongue to make sure that the ball of the barbell hasn't receded underneath the skin. Then WASH YOUR MOUTH. Please take very good care of this piercing! You do not want a serious infection. But again, no the size of the barbell will not directly cause an infection.

as long as you keep it clean, infection shouldn't be an issue. it might be a hinderance on healing though. in the future, never settle when getting a piercing or tattoo. if the shop doesnt provide what you want how you want it, go somewhere else.
