I bid for a pair of Evisu jeans the other day which I didn't win. I was offered a 2nd chance to buy them but I wasn't interested and now the seller is telling me I am obliged to buy the jeans. Surely this cannot be true?....

There are TONS of Scams out there. You are NOT Obligated to buy those jeans unless you won a bid or you bought them already (even then you can say that you no longer want to purchase them). Report this person to Ebay ASAP! Here are some tips for future references

1. Make sure you check everything out thoroughly
2. If it seems too good to be true, it probably either is or you need to look into it more
3. Get the information of the person who is selling the product and contact them about it.
4. If you have already recieved the item and it is not the way that the seller said it was, send it back, contact the seller, and contact ebay. You should be able to get your money back.

No its not true, you are in the right, the seller is confused. A second chance offer is exactly that - an offer. The first person who won it is obliged to pay for the jeans. Have a look, if they keep bugging you I am sure there is a form you can report them to Ebay - I definitely would nd I use Ebay all the time (I am a seller). Good luck.

No you are not obligated to buy , The only time you are obligated to buy is if you bid for and win the item, Second chance offers can be taken up if you wish or ignored, it`s your choice, I must add that this second chance offer may not be actually from the real seller as i really cant see a genuine seller pressurising you in this way and risk being reported to ebay.

If the seller sent you a "2nd chance to buy offer" then, this offer usually lasts a couple ofdays & then it's offered to whoever was the next bidder after you.
I would say, contact the forum on ebay it's part of the "community" at the top of your ebay page. They can sort this out for you & report the seller to ebay & they can even remove the seller.
Good Luck & don't worry & if you don't want them - don't buy them!

You have no obligation at all on a second chance offer if you have any more emails of them it would be in every honest ebayers best interest to report them. Follow the links on your ebay home page and they will look in to it. They take all types of illicit emails like this very seriously and will contact the seller on your behalf with a warning or if he has been reported before possibly a "strike".

If you lost the bid you have no obligation to buy the jeans. You are only obligated to buy the jeans if you won the bid. What happened to the person that DID win the jeans? They should be the ones that are obligated to buy.

What a scumbag!! The seller is either a complete idiot to the rules of eBay or just trying to pull a scam. Tell them where to go and report them to eBay. Although I am not sure how effective eBay will be in dealing with this person as they have proved to be more than useless in various incidents like these. Still they might pull their socks up on this occasion.

no you are not obligated. tell her to read the rules of ebay. second chance offering is just that "an offering". the only obligated buyer is the highest bidder which you were not. you are never obligated to buy something if it has gone over your bid amount

No you don't have to buy on a second chance offer, it is an OFFER not a confirmed sale or a commitment to buy, tell them you will report them to ebay if they don't back off.
