Dreams of flying are common and most people can recall having flown in a dream or two. There are many ideas as to what this means. Some people believe that flying in our dreams can be an actual out of body experience, that we go to places on this physical plane as well as into the inner planes (mostly the Astral). Carl Jung's idea was that in a flying dream we are expressing our desire to break free of restrictions and limitations. We have a desire to be free and above all difficulties! Alfred Adler thought that this dream was a type of a superiority dream in which we reveal the desire to dominate and be above others. Focusing on the libido, Freud thought that flying was another way to express sexual desires. The details of your dream will give you clues as to what it symbolizes, if your dream was a spiritual experience or ego based. Enjoy it, flying is fun!

as many have already said it's about freedom. in my dream book it says:
one of the most common explanations of a flying dream is that it represents a desire to "fly high" and an ability to cope with life, rising above it and viewing it from an objective standpoint.

it could also indicate a love of risk taking and adventure. if you are dreaming of flying on a carpet or armchair this means you are wanting adventure but within the confines of safety and security.

hope this has helped x

dreams of flying indicate that you may have a sense of control in your life. but take a look a the big picture when analyzing your dreams - you are flying, but what's around you? when you first started flying, what happened? things like that.

take for instance one of my dreams - i was surrounded by people who were chasing me, so i jumped and began to fly. i could only get a few feet over the ground before i fell. this means that i am trying to run away from the problems in my life, however, by flying, i'm also wanting to take control of my life. because i fell, that indicates that i'm letting myself be controlled.

everything, not just flying by itself, must be taken to account in making a full analysis of dreams. colors, feelings, people, as well as animals have meanings.

It means that you feel out of control in some situation in your current life that you want to have more control of. The situation of the dream is also important like were you flying yourself, in an aeroplane etc.. The location of the dream may also be important such as were you going on holiday?

It means you are ready to soar, spread your wings and move on. I had these kind of dreams when I was stuck in a dead end relationship and the more I dreamt of flying the freer I became mentally. Its your inner self telling you its time to move on. Go on hit the road and soar in whatever you are in at the moment it could be a job, relationship anything that you feel trapped in.

well first you have to consider if you are frightened in your flying dream or are you in complete control. if you are a little frightened i think it would mean you have been recently give some extra freedoms in your life and it is now time to find out if you can make it on your own. if you are in control i think it would mean you are discovering new ways to experience your freedom and i would try to lucid dream with this one.

I think it means that you want to be more free and in control in your life. You might feel trapped within your circumstances and want to break free from it? OR you just love flying, like me!

Question: What do they mean, to you?

Dream questions ~ are subjective experiences.

A large horse rearing up on its hind legs -

could mean 'flight' - freedom - power - strength

or

threat - sexual aggression - fear - anxiety - weakness

- and so on.

Dreams are interpretive, subjective and individual. There are no definitive answers ~ else people would not need to go on asking this question.
