The current fittnig is in a ceiling, and its horrible. I'd like to make it into a normal globe but the wiring inside looks pretty complex.

Wel you can't "re-wire", you must change fixtures. 1. Find the breaker for the fluorescent light and turn it off. 2. Remove the fluorescent light fixture from the ceiling. 3. Going into the fluorescent light fixture will be a black or red wire(hot), a white wire(neutral) and possibly a bare or green wire(ground) 4. Unhook or cut the black, white and bare wires and toss the fluorescent light fixture. 5. Purchase your new fixture. It will have a black or red wire, a white wire and a bare wire or a green screw. 6. Remove about 3/4" of the insulation from the wires coming out of the ceiling being careful not to nick up the copper to badly. 7. Twist the two bare wires together or fasten it to the green screw. Twist the two white wires together then screw on a "wire nut" over the connection. Wire nuts often come with new fixtures. Twist the two black wires together and screw on a "wire nut" over the connection. 8. Turn the breaker back on and voila you have a new light fixture. Not to be offensive but I'm thinking you might want to purchase the new light fixture and hire an electrician to do the switch. Should take an hour or less. Good luck.

Wiring Fluorescent Lights

As others have posted, the Green/Yellow wire is for earthing the fitting and should be connected to the installations earth. This is important as the chandeliers metal parts could possibly become live if a fault develops in an "unearthed" fitting. By the way in the UK wiring colours are now Brown = Live, Blue = Neutral , Green/Yellow = Earth. Older installation colours at the old central light position may be Red = Live, Black = Neutral, Green or Green/Yellow = Earth. Another possibility is the live wire (from the switch to the fitting) may be black with a red sleeve. Take care to check out the wiring arrangements before removing the existing fitting.

the wiring inside is for the ballast. Dont worry, they all run on the same current.
first disconnect the power.
second, check and make sure the power is off
remove the bulb, and then the ballast
detach the fixture, install new and test
