An erotic dream about a male relative (older cousin) and when the lights go on in your dream and you realize who you're with you wake up screaming?
I think it means you're maybe craving male attention? I don't know. My friend thinks she's insane for dreaming this, but dreams I think should be a guilt-free zone. Yes? No?
Do dreams always mean something?

Absolutely not - dreams do not neccessarily mean anything. In fact, dream analysis as a rule of thumb isn't exactly scientific (whcih is why Freud is not in fashion these days except in lay-men's circles). Many dreams can be completely abstract, and sicen you can interpret those in any way - there is no way to really see that they represent anything practical - in fact, you'd probably interpret them into something that your conscious wants it to be. This uncertainty is exactly why dreams do not really show anything at all other than the wanderings of your mind while at sleep.

Your friend's dreams are not wholly odd and though they may be distressing, are COMPLETLY natural. As a person matures sexually (emotionally, biologically), their mind will wander, and sometimes those thoughts may be about those who you are closest to - hence thinking erotically about a relative. Although these incestuous thoughts are alarming, they are merely the result of the maturation of the mind. The important thing is not to act on such impulses. This is the same theory that is behind such phenomenon as people pondering their own death, or perhaps hurting someone else - they're just thoughts, not practical actions. Many people have them, few people act on them.

If they are really bothering her though and are reoccuring consistently such that they are actually interfering with her life, I would recommend speaking to a counselor who would likely offer siimilar affirmations as I have.

This could be an extremely disturbing dream, but it does not necessarily have anything to do with sex. It is possible that you may be worried about other aspects of your family life. If this dream persists, you may consider talking to a professional about it. If you are currently making important decisions, don't do anything that is morally questionable because you are already experiencing disturbing dreams associated with taboos that bring up feelings of guilt and shame.

usually, having a dream of a male - a relative or not - may indicate that it is your male side of you. it doesn't necessarily mean you are craving male attention more than sexual need. now, people who we know can pop up and it can leave you saying "wtf", but it does not mean that you're dreaming about having sex with your cousin. periodically i have dreams of having sex with women. i do not desire sex with women. dreaming of the same sex may represent you as a female - engaging in sex may represent you being comfortable with your own sexuality as a human. dreams, to me, mean something. i analyze my dreams and realize there are issues that i've been ignoring for so long. once i realize what they are, i fix them and don't have dreams about it again. chemicals can effect you in your waking life, just as when you are dreaming. there can be a boost that may make you dream of something arousing or give you an adrenaline rush if it's a scary dream. these chemicals can be either caused from the foods you eat, to the pills you take and even to what your body is releasing. if you are under a lot of stress, you'll dream about issues that are making you stressed. as i said, dreams to mean something. in scary dreams, you can confront your fears in real life and end those dreams.

Yes dreams always mean something but most times they stem from not so obvious things. Really...it could be anything.

I say just give in to the temptation and do it. Your dream is an extension of your true feelings, so act on it.
