I love Americans, but please guys, one of the reasons everybody in Europe detests you guys right now is due to your penchant for assuming that you are the only country in the world. This guy is obviously talking about the new anti descimination laws going through in England right now. We dont HAVE a constitution. Though you guys do and your government only takes any notice of it when it suits them. (guatamo bay) ... you dont own the internet you big gorgeous dorks... you run the world like what we used to do...
anyway my tuppunce worth of rant on topic:
What is the problem with a church sect being allowed to turn away who it wants? But being Gay is a rediculous argument. For example recently the catholic church got instructions from rome to ensure that NO Gays were to become preists..they tripped over their own dogma here...because arent straight preists supposed to be celibate anyway? So under this new law couldnt straights be able to protest about not being able to shag like monkies?

Im a very gay girly girl and have been questioning religion for years... ever since I stopped going to church at the age of 15, realising I was gay and thought I would not be wanted. However it actually transpired that no-one ever rejected me and I was welcome whenever I wanted (it is a traditional church in Kent). Over the years I have started to believe that religion should be about faith. Most people need something to believe in even atheists(not sure how to spell that one) In my heart I know that God does not really exist and the bible is many fabricated stories written by numourous monks and story tellers. No one knows exactly why the world exists and where religion stems from Those people who use there faiths to exclude are no better than (lets use an example from the bible) the people who would throw stones at a prostitute "let those without sin cast the first stone" Can any of these people who cast me away because I am Gay really be without sin as it can be misrepresented in so many different ways I dont remember in the ten commandments a thou shalt not sleep with another woman, it is thou shalt not commit adultery! well I do actually think this is good I would never cheat on my partner. I stick to the commandments more than anyone even more than those people who would cast me away. Food for thought I think!

If you say that Gay Sex is a sin, that is nothing to do with politics. That is only a religious matter. If we say that gay sex is allowed by law, then we enter in politics, which can be changed any time. To say that gay sex is a sin is based on the Bible, as God created a man an a woman and told them to "produce children" but not to use sexuality only for pleasure.

Maybe my understanding of the new laws is flawed in some way. However I don't see how a gay person would want to go to a place (regardless or whether it's a church or anything else!) where they clearly didn't feel welcome. Sexuality is something that is a part of us all, it is how we choose to reveal it to others that makes the contoversey.
My point is whether or not I chose to tell you my sexuality doesn't change my sexuality, maybe your perception of me, but not my sexuality! Therefore whether the church feels it is right or wrong to have intimate relationships with the same sex, to me, is irrelevant. What I want is for my partner to have the same legal rights as a spouse, so that if I die they can benefit from my estate. It is issues like this that this legislation is there to enforce. How individuals either choose to display their sexuality or individuals choose to accept or not accept others sexuality I don't see how that is legally enforceable nor should it be.

You're a fool- no-one uses religion alone to start war- war has always been based on some tangible material resource be it land, gold, money, fortune or oil.
Small-minded people is a common slur used against people who simply happen to oppose another's views, like 'racist'.
However I feel (being an atheist) that it is wrong for the State to interfere in the dealings of the Church in exactly the same way the Church never interfere with the actions of the State.
It's their house- if they don't want gays- it's their loss.

It is a tricky law as the state has to enforce equality, but the church can still have laws on abstention and no sex before marrige.
I think this legislation is more aimed at people who hire staff using religious convictions for employment which is a secular/legal issue.

Well if some christian were to head to an area that is reputed as a gay area and started shouting that they were all sinners etc. i personally feel that that person should be viewed as a disturbance of the peace and treated accordingly by the police.

No, christian people will still be free to hold their opinions regardless. It just means companies/organisation will not be able to refuse to provide goods or services based on someones sexuality percieved or actual.
Personally, I cannot understand why people would get so upset about laws that merely prevent companies and organisations from behaving in a homophobic manner, it still leaves people free to be as homophobic as they like personally, freedom of speech is not touched by this.

no one has the right to tell a gay person its a sin to be gay ..a gay person couldnt tell a str8 person they were wrong to be str8..
Religion is just a moral guide and we choose to follow as we seem fit as individuals..we should all learn to love one another for what we are and not what we think others should be...if more people loved instead of hated and learnt to deal with others as equals the world would be a far safer place to live.
and ys to tell some its a sin that there gay is discrimation and under new laws you could find yourself being prosecuted

Freedom of Religion is a basic right that most everyone enjoys in the Western world. You cannot leglislate what people should believe, and few are foolish enough to even think so. If you think that laws governing religious belief is feasable, you're dreaming.
It just won't happen. How would you enforce the law, FAITH POLICE??? Maybe you can rewrite the Bible into a S.F.V. (super flaming version)??? My best advice would be to avoid churches and, alternatively to avoid sitting on my lap at church OK?
