Why do people want to hypenate themselves. I.E. afican - american, native - american, mexican - american. If you are born in Texas I could see you calling yourself a Texan - American, or the same for if you were born in New York, you would be a New York - American. Does anyone else think we need to stop segergating ourselves and just all be AMERICANS!

If the world was made of gum drops and roads made of fruit rolls ups we could all do that but since people try to distinguished themselves for survival purposes, its not. I'm black, African-American, whatever you call it. I would really like the term to be switched around to American-African. I feel like being called an African American is stating that I'm African before I am an American. We are all Americans, people. That's all I have to say about that. One love.

If you are born in America then you most certainly are an American, if your parents are from another country than you are a descendant of that nationality but you are American by birth.

I disagree. One of the greatest things about America is that it's a blend of so many cultures--one can be an American, and still be whatever else he is ethnically. I'm American, Irish, Scottish, Cherokee, and proud.
