yes, it does work for mild depression, just don't take it alongside normal anti depressants. it can interfere with the way that some other medication works. if u are looking for a natural anti depressant, exercise is a good way to lift your mood. i suffer on and off with depression, but i've felt a lot better since i've got myself out for a walk every day.

Yes, I does work, but it takes 2 to 3 weeks before you notice any difference. Make sure you buy good quality product and not cheepo stuff off the internet.

BTW there is no evidence whatsoever that taking St. John's Wort interferes with the contraceptive pill - this is a complete myth.

As with any medication there is always the possibility of ideosyncratic side-effects - if you get any just stop taking it.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and i can you for a fact that St Johns Wart DOES work. A lot of my patients are on them, which i prescribed. They are now found to be the equivalent to Prozac but with no side effects. You have to remember that herbal medicine is not an overnight cure, they take a little while to get into the system but its better than all those terrible side effects which can lead to you feeling worse than when you started. My patients have never looked back

I am currently taking it and have been for about 6 months now. I am planning to come off it soon so I can go back on the pill. It has worked for my depression but I am now at a point where I forget to take it as the effects are now levelled out. Check with your doctor before taking it.

I took it for about 6 months last year and the slight improvement in my state of mind enabled me to pick myself up and find a new job. I do wonder whether SJW truly does work or the improvement was simply a placebo effect though. What ever the case, I would recommend anyone to try them if they feel they need to.

Yep, I use it for PMT. Really helps me stop feeling irritable and tearful. Haven't used it long term though but from the benefits I get on a monthly basis I'd try it.

yes I have even taken large amounts and they give you a buzz. So it definitely does something.

As for long term use, their effects seem to be so subtle that you probably won't notice, in fact I kept forgetting to take them.

I don't take them any more, the costs outweighed any percieved benefits as I recall.

Yes, I tried it and it did not work for me. I went to a doctor and got medication that did work.

It does have an effect on the birth control pill....I was warned by my Doctor not to take it so if you are on the pill and take it be careful.
