Hello everyone!

I was the one who called this idiot an idiot for using the term "colored people". Yes, it is me. Please, hold your applause.

The NAACP was founded at a time when that was what they called black people, "colored". White people have come with a lot of different ways to identify black people. Some time after that they started calling black people "****ers". Maybe you could use that old throwback way of making reference to black people. Kinda has a nice ring to it don't it?>>!

Then, black people were called "afro-american". Getting better, but who wants to be named after a hairstyle? Then the terms "black", and "african-american" came in.

Well, I guess I should now apologize for calling you an "idiot" and I should thank you for the best answer 10pts. I hope that you take something away from the small lesson that I have tried to teach you. It sounds to me like you are probably from an area where there aren't many black people. Because where I'm from, white people know better than to call someone "colored".

Stop calling black people colored. Why do people call you an idiot for saying "colored people"? Because they are doing you a favor because you could catch a beat down if you say it to someone's face. Good thing you said it on the computer first, consider yourself lucky.

Yes, but that foundation was established long ago. It is impolite and plain racist to use that term. Saying "colored" implies that someone is something other than white, so you are stating that white people are above everyone else. If people are calling you an idiot for doing it, maybe you need to stop and think that maybe you are the one who is wrong.

Also, BTW, it is the NAACP, not "N double A CP". That shows just how ignorant (uneducated) you truly are.

As a Black woman, I can't stand it when people call me colored. I'm attending college in a small white town, and many people down here use the word "colored" as a derogatory racial slur. I associate the word "colored" with the "N" word. Of course many people aren't gonna call black people the "N" word cause that gets people jumped and perhaps killed, instead, they'll say colored which is more "acceptable".

When the NAACP was founded early 20th century at a time people of African descent identified themselves as "Colored".

Over the years, with increasing self-awareness of African ancestry, the word colored became less desirable as an identity to where now this group identifies as Black or African American.

The bottom line is we are all colored people of many hues!

Because it is derogatory. You should never call someone "colored". It is like saying the N word, if you know what I mean. It's not nice for people to call you an idiot either. Maybe you truly didn't know.

Colored people is just plain wrong. But I hear people saying "people of color" all the time, meaning no offense. I think both are offensive though, since technically we ALL have some sort of color to us, don't we?

because i guess it make people sound "predjudice" by saying "colored people" as they did say back in the 50's and 60's (primarily whites)

and i guess people are now accpeting "black people" as less "predjudice"? thats my thought
