Something else: Heal it and make it a valuable minion, ask in return for healing it and giving it a part of the King's land, to teach me it's arcane magics, and become good beer buddies. It'd be a damn hoot. Or, if it was being an butthead, kill it and eat it's heart, bathe in it's blood, collect the stone in it's head before killing it, and collect some of it's meat and organs for big cash on the black market. Oh, and make some armor out of the harder parts. If any of you know mythology, you'd know why I'd do the gorier things...Trust me, it's worth it big time. ;)

Depends on the Dragon.
Healing it would come from the hope that it won't hunt you down and can kill you later. Red and Black dragons would be a bad idea to heal.
Finishing it off can work out allot of valuable items can be made from dragons.
Of course you have to cash in on the hoard.

After collecting as much of its horde of valuables as I couold carry I would use its scales to make a shield and armor. I owuld bathe in its blood to harden my skin and eat its heart to gain knowledge.

Make Dragon jerky.
Make Dragon Stew.
Feed the dragon bone to a dog.
Take the dragon teeth and make a necklace to wear.
Take the long dragon bone and make a bench out of it.

It would actually depend which mythical world I happen to catch the dragon in.
If it were Middle Earth, I would steal take the treasure AND the dragon's coat
But if it were Earthsea, I would just have to out-talk him
