Seriously, a shot of whiskey or scotch will relax the singing muscles and it is known among many that great singers (like Elvis, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Don Ho) use this method before every performance. Give it a try, anyway. 1 shot won't hurt you and may help a lot!

hey i am an amateur singer and filipino. cold water can strain the throat, sweets make the throat stick and the mouth dry and it just makes singing harder.nothing you eat will make your voice better. you can take care of it by drinking warm soothing teas and drinking pei pa kwa(spelling?) which is kinda like a chinese syrup you mix with water before you sing.practice and exposure is all an aspiring singer needs.

Ya, my Filipino friends are always talking about that voice stuff. They don't drink cold stuff when they have soar throat, etc. I don't know. A lot of the medical information I get from my Filipino friends I've never heard of and often sounds silly.

Well, "salabat" ginger tea is nice but it depends on the drinker. Because I never drink salabat because it makes my throat itchy. But to others, they are just fine. Drink lukewarm water. Not to liquor and cigarettes. I said liquor because one time, our choir followed the piece of advice to drink a little of wine so as to get rid of nervousness. As a result, one of our choir members performed in an opposite manner. You can simply perform without liquor intake. Oh, you must not eat nuts, grated coconuts, chocolates, ice cream, cakes and other sweets for they will irritate your throat as well as spicy, salty and fatty food.
Also, try to find time to relax and have good night sleep regularly.
Hope you will find your dream.........GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
