**According to legend, in ancient China, Nian ("Nyan"), a man-eating beast from the mountains, could infiltrate houses silently to prey on humans. The people later learned that Nian was sensitive to loud noises and the color red, so they scared it away with explosions, fireworks and the liberal use of the color red. So "Guo Nian" actually means "Surviving the Nian". These customs led to the first New Year celebrations.**
Also:
**On New Year's Day, we are not suppose to wash our hair because it would mean we would have washed away good luck for the New Year. Red clothing is preferred during this festive occasion. Red is considered a bright, happy color, sure to bring the wearer a sunny and bright future. It is believed that appearance and attitude during New Year's sets the tone for the rest of the year. Children and unmarried friends, as well as close relatives are given lai see, little red envelopes with crisp one dollar bills inserted, for good fortune. **
And:
**At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red clothes, decorate with poems on red paper, and give children "lucky money" in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck. The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom. Long ago, people in China lit bamboo stalks, believing that the crackling flames would frighten evil spirits. **
Wow, that took me all of 3 minutes to find three different sources. You didn't look very hard did you. =)

There are many version of why the Chinese use red colour during CNY.
One popular version is the story of the monster called 'Nian".This monster always come out during CNY.It was an evil monster;and like to devour children. This monster had some weaknesses. It was afraid of loud noise and red colour.
This is why during CNY,Chinese like to let off red fire-crackers and hang red lanterns and cloths in front of their homes,to chase away the 'Nian' monster.
Hope this help.

Red is the color of/for/with China. Flag is red, national dress for women is red, red-hot cucumber, chili source, Govt. all red. The dragon spits fire. It is not just New Year flag. Better visit the Red country and see the fireworks and eat red rice for the first time. New Year is close by and it'll all be dumplings season . . .explore that interesting project too.

remember that your bouquets dont have to just consist of flowers. so if you did oasis with light brown accents (which is gorgeous, by the way) you can do white roses, or calla lilllies, and than have ribbon entwined in the bouquets, or feathers, exotic twigs, pom poms or lace, that can all be beautiful shades of brown. there are so many ideas. or another idea is using those exotic chinese fans instead of bouquets for the bridesmaids. congrats and have fun with everyone's ideas
