He said he couldn't live without me and actually took a butcher knife to it. I was called by the local police dept. and immediatly went to the hospital. He's in critical condition. How do I explain it to his family? I have to make the call tonight.

Wow you must be really hurt by this.. You don't have to make the call if you don't want to, but if you must.. this is what I would say..
Call them and say that your son is in the hospital for injuring himself.. tell them to come to the hospital as soon as they can and that you will explain the rest when they get there. Once they get there, tell them that their son is in a state where he's not himself and needs some medical help. ( Ie a psychiatrist ) It's not your fault by the way. I hope this helps some.

This is one I haven't heard before. I'm sorry to hear about
this but it may be a cry for help. Sounds like he really depressed
while he is in hospital have him checked for this. I would
just call his family and let them know that a tragic accident
has occured and that u need them to come to the hospital.
Let them handle it from there, remember he is your ex!

He is your ex, so stay out of it other than maybe asking after his health later on.If he cant live without you then why did he hurt his dick, does not make sense to me. unless you gave him something and so his dick is now useless anyways. the hospital will call the family

I think this has to be a joke. Not that I haven't thought of it. My penis has gotten me INTO trouble more than once. The thought was only symbolic, and not an actual realistic option. If your being honest, then mentally he is disturbed, and for that, he is not being himself, so I would label it an accident. If you are his ex, you shouldn't be the one to tell his family, especially if your one of those ex's that is mean to your ex, and the ex's family.
