There are several conditions that can cause chronic diarrhea. The most common cause is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However it can also indicate Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, or parasitic infections. Its very important that he sees a physician for any of these conditions. The doctor will probably run blood tests, stool tests, and perform a physical exam. If left untreated, chronic diarrhea can result in nutritional deficiencies and dehydration.

He really does need to see a doctor ASAP. Until then, make sure he has plenty to drink, as diarrhea can cause serious - even fatal - dehydration.

You don't say if he's had bleeding or pain with this, and we here on Answers are not qualified to make a diagnosis of something this serious anyway. Get him to a doctor - today if possible.
