The guy will be disappointed and would immediately check how his armpit smells. But will say something like, "Honey, I may not be able to grasp the entire picture now but can I bargain for 3 weeks".
If the wife will not budge, he'll take it as a yes but as soon as the wife is asleep, he'll crawl and climb onto the bed and say "Honey, make it 3 hrs."

Well, not understanding the circumstances, I can say ideally, the husband would stand by the wife. Realistically though, three years is a loooong time to wait. There's a good chance he'll find sex (and maybe even another companion) elsewhere, much sooner than that.

One person denying that level of intimacy will only cause trama on all levels of the relationship.
Sex is a bonding act that two people engage in- hopefully when they love eachother. This should be the case if you are married to them. To take that away only leaves you with the motions of daily activity- the same level of intimacy that he would have with his co-worker durring the day.
Intimacy is not just sex, though sex is often what makes the bulk of that. People need to be 'close' to continue to re-establish their love, bond, and sensitivity to one another.
Don't take that away, or else your taking a knife to your relationship and cutting out a huge chunk of it- and that's not just sex, it's love as well.
He will find himself feeling lonely and unloved.
I would.
And then in another's arms to find what he once had with his wife, that he's now attempting to replace with someone else.
