We can't observe black holes directly, but we do see their effect on surrounding material - gas and dust which lets out its last gasp before being sucked into the black hole or flung away in a jet.
Black holes, in fact, are extremely efficient at converting the energy of incoming material into emitted light. The gas which falls into a black hole doesn't plunge in directly, for the same reason the Earth doesn't plunge into the Sun. Instead, it tries to move around the black hole in an orbit, forming what is known as an accretion disk.
Material in the accretion disk slowly spirals inward as it loses energy due to friction - the huge gravitational tides near the black hole are excellent at ripping apart this material and heating it to high temperatures. The inner disks of supermassive black holes reach thousands of degrees Kelvin (similar to the temperatures at the surface of a hot star), while smaller black holes can heat their disks to millions of degrees, where they emit in the x-ray part of the spectrum.
Black holes, therefore, are some of the brightest objects around. Quasars can be detected out near the edge of the visible universe, where they shine with the light of trillions of Sun, while microquasars in our own galaxy can easily be hundreds of thousands of times brighter than the Sun, even though they are typically only ten times as massive.

The latest theory is that there is a black hole at the end of every galaxy. The stars rotating around the milky way supposedly are circulating around a black hole but why? when we know the milky way is white???? Just go figure.
It’s a teeter totter or a seesaw don’t ya think? If the black jumps off the one end the white takes a dive smack into where? Or vice versa....

The most simple answer to your question is because we can see the effects of the black hole. A quasar is the super hot matter that is getting ready to be suck down into the black hole that we are able to see and get a barring on where the black hole is. We can also see the radiation jets that are being ejected from the black hole as well as the way black holes bend light as they pass to close to it before we see it on Earth

It is possible to identify a black hole due to the gravitational pull it exerts on the nearby stars and matter. Also since even light cannot escape it, any light passing near a black hole tends to curve towards the black hole with which we can identify the black hole.. ( im putting it in lay mans terms)...

A black hole would be an anomaly among celestial bodies. There are some compelling arguments against their existence,though many scientists accept them as real.

Because that sector of space will have nothing visible beyond it. Kind of like a lunar eclipse but on a really big scale. Also it will leave a "hole" in the non-visible radiation, there will be lots of Gamma radiation surrounding it, but none coming from it.

I tell you one thing. I know every Black ho in my black. Oooops, you talking about the starts. Well, they are identified by astromers noticing the bending of light from other planets. The extrapolate and they can tell where the black hole is. For me it is easier, I just call the Black ho on my cell phone to find out where she is,
