Run D MC
Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five..They made that song (The Message)..
The Sugarhill Gang
If someone puts Ice Cube on here or Tupac..I will be very ashamed..because a hip hop or rap legend is someone that started in the industry from the beginning in the seventies and eighties..and had a message in their music...

The pre-hip-hop influences: James Brown, George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic, Muhammad Ali, H. Rap Brown, The Lost Poets, and Sly Stone
The Fathers of Hip-Hop: Kool Herc(the man who started it all), Afrika Bambataa(he named it hip-hop), Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Sugar Hill Gang, Run-DMC. These guys made it possible to make a career out of hip-hop
Legends: Rakim, LL Cool J, NWA, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Dr. Dre, 2pac, Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte, KRS-ONE & BDP, Slick Rick, Outkast, Ice-T. These are the guys who influenced all of your favorite rappers today.
There are no rappers in the "pop" era of hip-hop that deserve the title yet. Maybe Kanye, if he keeps making records. Don't get it twisted, just because Eminem, 50, Nelly, and Jay-Z sell a lot of records to suburban kids, don't make them legends in the class of these guys.
