it's the same as everywhere else in the world. Some people are happily married, some are unhappily married, some cheat, some are swingers, some are divorced, some shack up and never get married....you have it all
some wives remain loyal to their hubbies some don't, same thing applies for the husbands
EDIT
Yep I agree with hallambra

Well as the girls have said, you find in Lebanon the same problems that you find in any other country, the only difference is that it's all hush hush. People cheat, divorce, have pre-marital sex and all that but no one talks about it. Your friends might know but just as long as your family doesn't know you're fine. It's still a very traditional society, a lot of women are unable to get a divorce not just because they don't wanna leave their families but because sometimes it is impossible to get a divorce. Plus a lot of religions have really strict divorce laws so a woman might lose the privilege of seeing her kids if she divorces her husband so she stays.
Marriages in Lebanon are based on religion so divorce is handled in religious courts. Civil marriage doesn't take place in Lebanon even though it's recognized if the ceremony is conducted in another country. My parents have been separated for over 20 years and still the church is not granting my mom a divorce even though they know how abusive my dad was to her.
But in general you'll find a bigger percentage of families that are a one time marriage even if they're not happy at the core, they rather pretend than tell people they are having problems.

There are no official data statistically. We are just too busy playing our power games to take a closer look at what's happening to our society and family cells.
I assume the numbers would be much lower than the western world ( some countries reach 1 divorce in 3 marriages) for the stigma attached to divorce and all the cultural reasons listed above.

I think it has risen in the past 6 month (only in the south) due to pressure of the war and the current living levels. But it will go back to normal after all this political crises is lowered and the confrence "Paris 3" will bring much to the Lebanese families.
Another thing hezbollah has brought problems to the south so that is were all the problems are because of what have people faced during the war. So the people in the south were poor and they have gotten even more and more por because of hezbollah war.
In Beirut and other Sunni, Christian & Druz neighbourhoods the divorce statistics are currently very normal.

I agree with Kate, but have to add something..,,, Lebanese society is still so much prejudged and closed , to be divorced in lebanon is not the same that to be divorced in USA.
What other pple think..... is still important in Lebanon, and many women remain married bcoz of that in spite of their marriages dont work.Yes.....women remain loyal to their families. family is the most important for a lebanese woman
Even........many women ( in spite of some pple cant believe it) were "married" by their parents, with guys that girls didnt love and so much older than them.
PLZ dont tell me that these things didnt happen, bcoz that happened in my family few years ago. I know very well what i'm talking about.
So......in Lebanon happens all the things that Kate said........but many of them are under "the carpets"

well i think they are same as in syria,
diivorced woman should back to her family, she stay with her family as before she got married, some cases she could life alone, pr with her children.
in our society her family responsible her, she has not to work, ( she can if she wants ) ...after that when she grew old, her sons/dauoghter, look after her,
i think situation here inarab country more better than there
