you're exactly right. when i'm felling snippy or mean and someone says how nice i am, it snaps me out of it and i strive to be a better person.

All the time..... In real life, in person, people compliment me NON-STOP about how smart I am and women regarding how good looking I am, etc. The truth is, I'm overweight and ugly, and I think I'm stupid too. I just so happen to be well informed in a few relevant subjects that impresses MORONS who like fat, ugly men, I' guess.
And I'm not joking about ANYTHING I've said here. I get compliments all the freaking time.

Often we are our own harshest crtics. Sometimes due to self-esteem issues we can't accept a compliment from someone (I'm having a bad hair day... how can he like my outfit!) Things like that. It is important to be humble and not always fishing for attention and compliments, but when someone does compliment you the gracious thing to do is say thank you.

Yes, it happend to me once, and I was given an Expensive Set of Pens.
I felt I should be doing something back to that Co.'s G.M., whom I indirectly assisted his Co. selling a piece of Equipment to a Client of mine.
Eventually, I was offered a job to with them, which I turned down, but I kept sending them similar clients of mine for purchases of such Equipment.
After some time, I felt I had earned THAT PRECIOUS SET OF PENS...

Sure. But I figured I deserved it from something else I never got recognition for. But I never felt guilty!

"You're a breath of fresh air". . . Surprised and warmed me...yet also made be feel humble. I've learned through life to accept a compliment and soulfully express "thank you"

If I didn't deserve it, I would explain to that person what the actual was. No point in taking credit where it's not due.
