Yes, of course. However, overweight and obese people are at higher risk for complications such as gestational diabetes and low birth weight. It is in the best interests of both the mother and the baby for the mother to be a normal weight at the start of the pregnancy.

You betcha!! Sometimes when ladies are overweight their monthly cycle can be out of whack so they won't even know when they are pregnant. I had a Cuz many years ago that was a large person who didn't know she was pregnant. She went to the bathroom and had a baby in the toilet and then had another on the floor. Boy was she surprised. The one born in the toilet survived. How would you like to have that on your birth certificate? Place of Birth.....toilet. lol

Yes, my best friend's sister-in-law knows a girl who weighed something like 415 lbs. who had two kids, but she had to have a c-section both times. BUT, her doctor said that it was more dangerous for someone her size to go through pregnancy, and she told my best friend that it was really hard on her. She had a very hard time breathing and getting around. I guess she has a hard time taking care of her children, because she doesn't have the energy to keep up with them, so her mom has to do most of the work. Not very fair to her mom, and definitely not fair to the kids. I'm not saying that I don't feel sorry for her, but kids need and deserve to be able to depend on their mothers to take care of them, in my opinion.

Of course, I think the record for largest woman to give birth was betwee 600-700 pounds - though many women who are overweight have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) that makes it harder to conceive, but often with fertility drugs it can be achieved.
