A CDR can only be burned on once.

A CDRW can be burned on multiple times until the disc is locked, then you can't burn on it anymore.

A CDRW is re-writable, meaning you can record some music on there one day, then the next day you can change your mind and record some other music on there, and then the next day you can change your mind again and put a bunch of photos on it, and the next day you can add more photos, then you can just erase everything and put it back on the shelf till you're ready to record something else on it. It's reusable!

A CD-R is recordable ONCE. You cannot re-record it. You can't erase what you've recorded either. The only exception is that if you are only going to use the CD on your computer (not as a music disk), windows can actually let you reuse it through some special kind of data encoding. But for the most part, you can't reuse it, but you can throw the disk away and go for a walk. Have you ever tried that? It's really nice.

Try going up to Marin County and taking a stroll down to the seaside, it's really beautiful. Or you could visit the crazy old Czech guy in the mountains at his restaurant, and he will tell you stories of what a slug old George Lucas (Star Wars director) is over glasses of Becherovka, and you might even get a glass of Velikopopovicky or two on the house.

CD-R = You can only write data into it once unless you set it as multi-session disc. But you cannot free the disc free space or permanently delete the data in the disc.

CD-RW = You can write data into the disk as much times you want. You can also erase all or any data in the disc as much times as you want and it will free the disk space. Choose a good quality CD-RW for the best result.

Good luck!

a CD-R can only be written to once, you can put multiple "projects on a single CD-R w/o closing it. but once a CD-R is closed it may never be written to again.

a CD-RW can be erased and rewritten to over and over again. this too is limited(about half a million writes) but whos gonna notice?:P
