Ok you didn't mention either solid wood or mdf, the mdf is eaiser to do but requires to be painted, the reason why is that the installer can be more sloppier and use filler to acheive the best results with the mdf, but with solid wood, the prices for installation can go up, mainly because no walls are perfect so it'll take alot of time making sure the corners are perfect so there is no large visible gap. Also cutting them takes skill as it not like regular molding which only needs one type of angle to be cut, crown molding requires multiple angles. I usually charge by the linear foot, for crown mdf i charge about 80 cents labour but for solid wood ill charge about 1.60 cents a liner foot.

The cost of the molding can be found by:
Measuring the distance along each of the walls in each area.
Add them up. Add 1 foot for each ten feet of length. This will give you the approximate total length you should plan on purchasing.
Decide which molding you want to install and from this decision you should get the price per foot.
Multiply the price per foot by the length you need and you will have an approximation of the materials cost. You may need more depending upon a lot of things. Like how may corners you have, how many mistakes you make, and so forth.
When installing the crown molding, keep in mind that it is best to run the entire length of a wall rather than try to patch it together. But hey, you may be good at it.

I have done a lot of crown molding. The 700 sf you indicate would cost about $600, not including the material or paint.

The major expense is going to be the crown molding itself. There are simple ones and there are detailed ones. Some are made from MDF or plastic/wood composites, and some are made of oak.
The only supplies you'll need are a miter box/saw, nails, caulk, and paint. That part of it is cheap and this is an easy enough project that you should be doing the labor yourself.

That will depend on what kind of crown molding. Is it one piece, two piece or three? Is it real wood, prest wood or painted plastic? Your largest section of the molding for plastic or pressed wood is around $2.10 per linear foot. For wood around $6 the other trims to top it off will vary with what you are looking to get out of it. Your best bet isto head to the lumber yard.
