She just graduated high school in May and moved in with a 26 yr old married man. I suspect he owes a gas bill, so they put it in my daughters name to keep it connected and now it is coming to my address for some reason. This really makes me mad, and I think I should call the gas company tommorrow and inform them I think they have made a mistake. My daughter does not have a job, she barely has enough food to eat. I think the gas company is being bilked. What can I do? They made me pay my dads gas bill, along with my own gas bill from a divorce before they would turn me on in my new home in 2001, and I suspect they will probably somehow try to make me responsible for this. What should I do? Can I just tell them to shut it off?

I think he will saddle her with debt she cannot pay and dump her. She is so stupid. Its not even her home. His parents own it.

If I can foreward this bill to his wife, I think I will do that. Any other suggestions?

Just because the address is yours does not mean the account is yours. Put return to sender on the envelope and send it back after you tell your daughter that you are doing this. Phone the gas company and say you are getting another persons gas bill for at your address and it is a mistake. Record the name of the person you talked to, the dateand the time you phoned to advise them of their error. Tell her/him you will return to sender c/o his or her name.

Wow. What a lousy situation. Why not talk to your daughter? If they are having a hard time financially and you love your daughter.... you don't want her to have it shut off. However if she used your mailing address and you don't want her to.... you have a right to say so. But I would give her the chance to fix the problem before you do something spiteful. I understand your frustration. But remember she is your daughter. Give her the benefit of the doubt. If she doesn't correct it in a reasonable amount of time.... just mark the envelope requesting address correction. Or do whatever you feel you must. But give her a chance to know you are upset and to do the right thing first. And you shouldn't be judging this person's daughter. We don't know the situation. We all make choices that others could question we aren't perfect. And stop hating this man too. While it seems immoral to us... a 19 year old is not a baby. Nobody said she was being held by force. She has to be responsible for her own life too. While the situation seems unfortunate... they are both adults. And we all have to learn from our mistakes. We can't treat our adult children like babies. I notice everyone dumps on this guy. But nobody questions why the daughter has no job?! OK. So.... let them be responsible for themselves. And protect your credit. But stop hating!

You need to go have a talk with that guy. He needs to be responsible for the bill and not you! Why in the world is your daughter living with a man who is married to somebody else???? She is just asking for trouble and heartache! He sounds like a real loser, try to get her away from him and dont let him put anything in her name or she will be stuck with paying for it!!!
If the bill came to your house and not theirs, it sounds like they are already being sneaky and shady and trying to dodge the bill collectors! Sounds like trouble
