If you are 16 then you should have taken driver's ed before now so you could get your license when you turned 16...
You WILL have to take a driver training course to get your license under the age of 18 in Texas...

Hi Mac...
Please avoid any short cuts to obtain any thing like driver's license by over ruling the govt. norms or rules. U may get temporary satisfaction and joy by doing so.
But, there are many decades to live for you and during this period, by mistake if u happen to come across any accident, then all your old records will be reopened and they will easily put u in trouble.
At that time if you have lot of money, probably they will drain out all before prosecuting you, still u will hv to undergo the punishment. If u dont have money at that time, u will be quickly prosecuted and will have to undergo the punishment.
Why u put your precious life in danger when u can find some other alternative to manage the present crisis?
Find out some one who is going to your school from your locality, have an agreement with them to drop you there. U speak to ur parents and arrange for the money.
Or else, shift your house location closer to the school, so that u can go by cycle or by walk or look for a school near by your locality - of course, this one to be done after discussing with ur parents.
Simply, saying, never ever try to by-pass rules, which will be very costly to bear in your life! Rules are made after a thorough checking of humen behaviour. It has been found, after 18 only, a person becomes more matured to look the life from the realistic point of view and is given permission to drive so that he and the fellow citizens are safe.
I appreciate you, for raising this important question, which is there in many youngsters like you but never asked and rather persue a wrong route!
Wish u all the best!

Living in Texas is a Bummer, that's why I moved to Shakey Town. Get your parents to sign the forms (in front of a Notary Public) when they are home. Take the forms, Proof of Insurance,Certified copy of Birth Certificate,Oh Yes, The Money for the Dept of Public Safety, And if you are going to take your driving test that same day, Don't show up without someone else driving the car. also make sure the car has up to date inspection sticker.Good Luck...

No. You need to be at least 18 with at least 2 years driving expereince. Preferably over 19. You must have your own car and insurance too.

I had the same problem, and didn't get mine until after high school. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day.
Your only other choice is a private driving school, but they cost hundreds of dollars.

You don't have to take drivers ed first, you can just take the test. But studying the book, or taking the class may better your chances of passing.
