confused? kerala got a mountain stretch of more than 400 kms where tamilnadu and karnataka forests and hills are on the other side.....all the details are provided by people answered before ..From my experience depending on your time select 2 loactions which are not more than 100 kms to travell and stay there for atleat 2 days each.......best time to travel in kerala hill stations is just after the rains in july.....where all the water bodies will be active and the forests will be lush green....and less tourists....they call in off season but for a nature lover its really on going yaaaaahoooooooooooooooooooo

stick to munnar and travel to pollachi {tamil nadu) 3-4 hrs journey max. devikulam vaddan medu periyar and all is the other direction...Wynad is also agood bet then you need to enter from karnataka..coorg nagerhole etc......thats also a nice bet

option 3 is attapadi ..travel from plaghat ...go inside the forests

Kerala is a tiny state sandwiched between the Arabian sea on the west and a range of hills (southern part of the Western Ghats) on the East. So, the eastern end of practically the whole state has hill stations. Munnar is probably the most famoaus of them all, Go to Wayanad in the north of Kerala for a less-visited option. 2 useful sites are:

Echo Point
This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo Point is on the way to Top Station in Munnar



Rajamala
Rajamala is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragas hylocres), the Eravikulam - Rajamala region is now home to half the world population – estimated at around 1300 - of this endangered mountain goat. But the Tahr is only one of the reasons to make a visit to Rajamala.


Vagamon
One of the most beautiful places with a chain of three hills - the Thangal hill, the Murugan hill and the Kurisumala, important for Muslims, Hindus and Christians respectively.



Pullumedu
Velvet lawns and rare flora and fauna add to the beauty of Pullumedu. The famous Sree Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala and the Makara Jyothi illuminations at the shrine are visible from here. The winding journey to this hill along the Periyar River, offers a stunning view of hills draped in lush greenery.


Vandanmedu
This is one of the world's largest auction centres for cardamom. A walk through the sprawling cardamom plantations of Vandanmedu is a heady experience.



Chellarkovil
This sleepy little village with its breathtaking view of the plains and cascading waterfalls is a feast for the eyes. The village slopes down to the famous coconut groves of Cumbum in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Vandiperiyar
The River Periyar flowing through the centre of this town nourishes its vast tea, coffee and pepper plantations. A major trade centre, Vandiperiyar is also home to a number of tea factories. The Agriculture Farm and Flower Garden have a delightful array of rose plants, orchids and anthuria.



Pattumala
Pattumala or Hill draped in silk in Peermede has charms like no other. The lofty peaks, the little streams and the green expanse of the tea plantations give the hills an ethereal beauty.



Eravikulam National Park
A sanctuary for the endangered mountain goat of South India, the Nilgiri Tahr ( Hemitragus hylocrious), the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its rolling grasslands and sholas, spread over 97 sq km in the Rajamalai hills. An ideal place for trekking, facilities are provided here and tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi ( the highest peak south of Himalayas )

Munnar is a fabulous Hill Station in the Cardomom Hills in the Western Ghats! Fantastic views over the tea plantations, with the option of visiting the plantations and museums. Various waterfalls in the area are worth visiting, as well as nearby Echo Point...does what it says on the tin...

Munnar: nestled in the green and serene Kannan Devan Hills, Munnar lies at an altitude of 1524 m and is about 136 km away from Cochin. Munnar has some of the biggest tea plantations in the world.
Chembra Peak: at a height of 2100m above sea level, Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad and offers some ideal spots for trekking.
Chithirapuram: this beautiful place radiates the perfect charm of the old world. Located at a distance of 10 km from Munnar, Chithirapuram is famous for its picturesque tea plantations and sleepy little cottage bungalows.
Devikulam: this is another place situated in close proximity of about 7 km from Munnar. It is popular for its vast and exotic range of flora and fauna. The Sita Devi Lake is a lovely picnic spot in Devikulam.
Idukki: Idukki with its diverse attractions of wildlife sanctuaries, spice plantations, mountain treks, and elephant rides offers as a beautiful tourist destination.
Lakkidi: this picturesque destination is located at a distance of 55 km from Kozhikode. It is the gateway to Wayanad.

Much of kerala's exotic appeal is centred in the highland area of the western ghats. Rising to an average height of 1520 m, the tropical forests of the ghats house rich flora and fauna. Not to speak of expansive, loamy plantations of tea, coffee, rubber and fragrant cardamom.





Chembra Peak :

14 km west of kalpeta, at 2100 m above mean sea level, chembra is the highest Peak in wayanad and is an ideal area for trekking.




Chithirapuram :

10 kms from munnar, with its sleepy little cottages bungalows, old playgrounds and courts, chithirapuram still exudes an old world charm. Home of the pallyvasal hydel power project, this hill town is also famous for its picturesque tea plantation.




Devikulam :

7 kms from munnar, this idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The sita devi lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.


Idukki :

A landlocked district, idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of kerala . The high ranges and wooded valleys are girded by three main rivers- periyar, thalayar and thodupuzhayar- and their tributaries. The river pamba also has its origin here. As a tourist destination, idukki offers diverse attractions like wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantation tours, mountain treks, elephant rides etc. Idukki has a large population of tribals who have unique customs and beliefs and maintain an ethos which is distinctly different from that of the mainstream culture.


Lakkidi :

55 km east of kozhikode / 5 km south of vythiri, lakkidi the gateway to wayanad, is situated 700 m above mean sea level. At the crest of the thamarasseri ghat pass. Lofty peaks, gurgling streams and luzuriant forests add magic to the journey up the winding roads to this hill station.

Idukki

Devikulam (Hill Station in Kerala)
Situated 16kms south-west of Munnar, is a small hill station Devikulam, Hill Stations which means 'Pond of the Goddess', as it is believed that goddess Sita once, had a bath in the pond near by and hence this place was named after it. This place has a lot of natural beauty and many tourists come here to enjoy its serenity.

Echo Point

Kudayathoor Mala
A picturesque hillock 6 km. from Malankara Dam site, is ideal for trekking, Elaveehja Poonchira 6 Kms upstream is another beautiful picnic spot.

Munnar (Hill Station in Kerala)
