No, as long as the information is encrypted. The government is mandating electronic medical records in the not too distant future.

I am currently working with my local health authority implementing a new system that has electronic pt record. What we have been told is that this is perfectly fine and legal, but each "Electronic REcord" may only be accepted within our authority, as there are no international guidelines for these electronic records. If a pt were in need of bringing a copy of their record elsewhere, it may have to be dictated and typed and signed the old fashioned way to be taken as truth from the receiving doc. This is more of a concern for out of country patients, visiting here (Canada) and needing or wanting to bring a copy home for their doc.

If you own a business I would usggest getting a pre-paid legal plan to help cover you butt in the event someone steals information that you are responsible.

I am sure you've seen the ads from attorneys encouraging people that have taken medications and had problems because of them? Well, attorneys are now starting to cash in on the growing identity theft issue as well. They are encouraging people who have become victims of identity theft to use them to sue the company who had a breach. Check out the link below.
