If two people genuinely create almost-identical products, who owns the idea? What punishments should be enforced for stealing a text file? Should the punishment be greater for an MP3? Is copying a file really stealing if the original user still has their file? As hackers and peer-to-peer software evolve, what can be done to counteract the sharing of information? Should companies/artists embrace file sharing as others have done? The Arctic Monkeys sold thousands of CDs by getting fans off on peer-to-peer file sharing programs to listen to their music for free.
