The advantages and disadvantages of globalization have been debated and scrutinized heavily in recent years. Proponents of globalization say that it helps developing nations "catch up" to industrialized nations much faster through increased employment and technological advances. Critics of globalization say that it weakens national sovereignty and allows rich nations to ship domestic jobs overseas where labor is much cheaper.

Some Advantages
Increased free trade between nations
Increased liquidity of capital allowing investors in developed nations to invest in developing nations
Corporations have greater flexibility to operate across borders
Global mass media ties the world together
Increased flow of communications allows vital information to be shared between individuals and corporations around the world
Greater ease and speed of transportation for goods and people
Reduction of cultural barriers increases the global village effect
Spread of democratic ideals to developed nations
Greater interdependence of nation-states
Reduction of likelihood of war between developed nations
Increases in environmental protection in developed nations

Some Disadvantages
Increased flow of skilled and non-skilled jobs from developed to developing nations as corporations seek out the cheapest labor
Increased likelihood of economic disruptions in one nation effecting all nations
Corporate influence of nation-states far exceeds that of civil society organizations and average individuals
Threat that control of world media by a handful of corporations will limit cultural expression
Greater chance of reactions for globalization being violent in an attempt to preserve cultural heritage
Greater risk of diseases being transported unintentionally between nations
Spread of a materialistic lifestyle and attitude that sees consumption as the path to prosperity
International bodies like the World Trade Organization infringe on national and individual sovereignty
Increase in the chances of civil war within developing countries and open war between developing countries as they vie for resources
Decreases in environmental integrity as polluting corporations take advantage of weak regulatory rules in developing countries

Disadvantage: 1- international rules over our constitution and other nations's contittutions. That would be the war for freedom or war for democracy we see today all at expense of our population. 2- we will be, as we are doing today, bailing out a lot of foreign financial businesses overseas, that do not pay neither constribute a dime to our nation. 3- international regulatory agencies manipulating the markets and establishing a kind of socialism, selecting who is going to fail today to help someone else they decide tomorrow, like picking winners and lossers. 4- Terrible for the currency markets 5- Terrible for competition

There are many advantages of globalization from the "have not" nations, or third-world countries because free trade opens the door for creativitiy, free enterprise, new job markets, and places these nations as an active member of trade blocs. Not only can these nations provide certain products for sell, they can also trade for goods that they need for their people. Also, from their perspective it is good that many companies relocate to their nations to help them build up their markets and economies because of cheaper rates.

As for the disadvantages, most free trade pacts or agreements put stipulations on what a country must do to engage itself in partnerships. First, they must meet certain environmental standards, such as clean air, clean water based on the Kyoto Treaty. Many third-world nations such as the Phillipeans uses child labor in sweat shops. Some nations frown upon that has a negative and won't exploit a nation's labor practices just for the sake of making a new market. The industrial nations lose jobs and many companies are exporting their work forces overseas because of cheaper costs. Everything costs less to produce because of a lower currency/monetary value as compared to the US dollar. It may be a plus for 3rd world nations, but is a negative to industrialized states because of a loss of jobs going overseas.
Another disadvantage of globalization is that the political structures in many nations are unstable. There are many civil wars, internal strifes that could cause major disruptions to investments made. Markets are definitely affected by politics and there are many countries that have shaky governments.

Overall, I believe globalization of markets and free trade is good because it allows poor nations to boost their economies, provide jobs and care for their people, and they can enter into the competitive markets of the 21st century.
