It's been said recently that if the U.S. congress were to cut funding to the Iraq War, it would be political suicide. But for who? Couldn't the congress cut off all funding, with the exception of funds needed to get the troops back home? If this were done, then Bush's only option would be to winthdraw all troops at once. If he didn't, wouldn't it be his political suicide. In failing to do so he would be putting the troops at risk. Because if this were done, it would rest with the President to take the action that would prevent any unnecessary harm to troops. The nations elected representitives would have spoken, and Bush would be forced to comply. Otherwise he would be put soldiers in a more dangerous position then they are in now. And why should the war continue? It's not even the same war that it was 4 years ago. The Iraq military was destroyed, Saddam was removed, and WMDs (or the lack thereof) were dealth with. That was the war that was supported. That war is over.

Cutting off all funding for Iraq operations would leave our troops stranded.
A better solution would be for them to audit where the money allocated for the war, including the $9 billion+ that Halliburton can't account for. Seems the republicans weren't interested in finding out anything about where that money went.

Hmmmm... are you serious?!...
We destroyed the government of Iraq and by international law we cannot leave until there is a government in place to protect the people...
The real problem is.. that most of the people in the country are of one faith that does not recognize the rights of the rest of the people and visa versa... so it is hard to set up a democratic government...
Because of this, it will take us about 2 generations to modify the mindset of the people there in order to recognize that people of all faiths have certain rights, not just those of the governing faith...
2 generations.. or about 40 years of toiling in the desert...
If congress cuts the funding and forces our troops out then the government will collapse and some form of vicious dictatorship will take over and there will be chaos for a time.. many innocent lives lost.. many power struggles.. and perhaps the faiths with the fewer numbers will be eradicated...
so, yes.. this would be political suicide for those who vote for it.

honestly, he can't just pull out. it was very dumb of him to go in there. but it needs to be finished. what is needed is not to cut funding, but to have a realistic goal that will have them standing on their own, not needing us. and to leave then. because if he did not leave. i wouldn't like him anymore, and maybe have more of a reason, but politically he is done. he is some what separate from the political party, in a way. not completely reflective in how we elected in a democratic congress. but it would be more of political suicide for the congress. because on a bad vote, to make what we have already done useless, to make it most likely worse. just giving a real reason for the terrorist and other governments to hate/dislike us... there is no real way that has a positive out come. bush is not doing the right thing. but him staying there is needed, hopefully his replacement can finish it. finishing up your question, it would be blame on both of them, bush's fault for not following the order, causing for more deaths. but congresses fault for voting an unrealistic blow to an unstable Iraq.

No, that is not how it would be perceived! If you cut the funding to troops you put them in harms way. That is the way it will be perceived by the troops and half the people in this country. Have you talked to any troops by the way? I do all the time. The majority I have talked to want to finish the job, so they can come home and not end up back over there! Colin Powell said it best, "if you break it, you own it!" We removed their government now it is our duty and obligation to help their government be able to stand up and protect their country. How will the US be viewed if we just left? Worse than we are seen today, in my opinion!

It depends on who can more effectively communicate their message to the press. My bet would be if it ever came down to a game of chicken with the troop funding congress would flinch first.

Do you have any foggy notion how long it takes to establish a government?
For the very first time, the people of Iraq had an opportunity to vote for who they wanted in office. The building of a democracy is not in 5 years...I'm mean, cripes, we've been at it 200 years now and we still haven't gotten it perfect. If we did, we wouldn't be fighting anywhere trying to solve anyone's ternary issues. We'd be at peace and they could be fighting amongst themselves. It wouldn't have anything to do with us. This power, money and oil thing are way out of control.

al-qaeda and other anti american terrorist groups have flooded Iraq...if we leave now, then the US will be a major target for terrorism...the war on terror may not have been Iraq before the invasion, but it certainly is NOW. Cut funding will not solve any problems....Dems want a strategic re-deployment over a two year period...so long as Iraq increased its military to continue the fight...because the fight will continue.

Well I can tell you one thing, of all the soldiers/sailors/marines I know, they would all be pretty perturbed with Congress. They want to get the job done and have it done right. (Getting it done is a shot at the Cut and Run Democrats, Get it done right at the President [at least that's how they put it to me]).
