this is an excellent question....

Without a shadow of a doubt. Thee greatiest rivalry in sports is The N.Y Yankees and Red Sox. These two teams hate each other on the inside, have usually the best players, and sometimes have ex yankees playing for the red sox and vice vera (Damon for example)- this even heats it up. Heck, non-baseball fans tune into T.V to watch this bout. In the playoofs there is some much adversity and tension between these two teams. It is just amazing to watch. These two teams should be in different divisions so they can play for the World Series. wow ....this is truely a bitter rivalry.......runners up- leafs- candians, eagles cowboys now, colts and pats now

Yankees vs Red Sox. Everytime these two teams play the game means something and there is a much higher intensity and desire to win.

I wouldn't consider the Celtics and Lakers a rivalry anymore. In the 70s and 80s yes, but definitely not anymore.
