Some women can get their period in the first few months of pregnancy, and not know that they are pregnant.
I ended up being 20 weeks along like you with my first before I found out. And I actually had my period for another month after that. Although they say that you should feel the baby right about now....Some women do not for a few more weeks. Especially if you are a first time mom here. Your baby movements may feel more like buterflys or small hunger/restroom pains in your lower tummy.
As for the tests results, Some women have very low hormone levels throughout their pregnacy and it may through off a home test. My mom took a home test about 5 months into her pregnancy just to prove this.- Yep she had the belly already and everything, but the test said sorry no baby.

A baby at 18 weeks or even 20 weeks are tiny wee things - they aren't supposed to be big yet. The size actually comes in the last 2 months - the rest of the time is growing all the parts. Likely your baby is moving about, you just don't feel it yet. Surely you heard the heartbeat.

As for diagnosis - go with what the doctor said - likely based on the sonogram - 20 weeks it is.

Youcan be pregnant and still have period like bleeding - sometimes all the way through.

I'd procedd like you were 20 weeks along and plan from there.

Well you wouldnt feel movement yet maybe in the next few weeks you will, and I know of many people that where pregnant even though they had their last cycle. And if you had your regular cycle, then the docters are estimating how far along you are based on the production of the baby through a ultrasound. If you dont have regular cycles, then that makes it even more difficult to pin point how far along you are without haing a ultra. Also make sure your body has enough hormone to hold the baby, maybe there wasnt enough hormone to detech the prenancy on the test. If your hormones are low you may need a prescrition for extra hormone to take for about 8 weeks. Check it out and bring these things up at your next docters appointment.

They go by the measurement of the baby to give approximate date. Sometimes you may bleed its not uncommon. the more ultrasounds you get the dates mat fluctuate a bit but no worries. And maybe you first test came back negative because you didn't have enough of the hormone in your body at that time. Good luck and no worries. Oh! did you find out what your having?

early pregnanct tests are not always acurate, so the negative inoctober could have been false. Maybe the sept period was implantation bleeding?

a baby at 18-20 weeks in only 4-6 inches long.

Doctors only estimate. I read that they can be 2 wks off.

I was due on Dec. 17, 2005 and my baby didn't arrive until Jan. 19, 2006 and had to be induced.
My daughter was perfectly fine.

they can tell from the ultrasound... that is how they can judge an estimated conception date.
