You have to drive over state lines and bring one back with you. Ferret's are illegal in California due to the unknown gestation period for rabies in ferret's. (Unknown because a ferret will die very fast after contracting rabies.) Also, because they don't want ferret's to become a feral animal in CA. (It would destroy our eco-system)
Just be aware, if you get a ferret it's still illegal. There are some vets that will treat your little fella, but there is always the possibility that animal control could come to your door and take and destroy your pet. So, knowing that, and if you love animals like you should, I think you ought to think twice about bringing in the animal.

try craigslist.com its an online giant classifieds-ad. just chose your region and click pets. people have ferrets for adoption right now!
