Is it worth buying one of those CD cleaners (previous experience tells me they are rubbish) or do I need a new drive?

Some of my CDs are 17 years old! I first noticed the skipping with a new one though.

New drive. After loads of non-stop CD copying, any drive would go dead.

It may be that your head needs cleaning, or that the head has just got too hot. If it is very old it may have gone out of adjustment. Your CD's may also be crap. If I get one that skips leave the computer to cool a bit, put the CD in the deepfreeze for an hour and then copy it.
Did you know CD may only have a lifespan of 5 or 6 years IRRESPECTIVE of if they are played. i did not and found it on a CD manufactures website, EMTEC I think.
