I don't know how you define "the best." They were certainly the most influential--it's hard to imagine what the 60's would have been like without them. Remember, no English group had been successful in the U.S. until the Beatles took us by storm. So they paved the way for a lot of other people, some of whom might in some ways be technically better.

If you weren't there at the time, you can't imagine the stir they created. Back when the charts for singles were the most meaningful measure, they once had the top five songs in America. Sometimes they would release a 45 and first one side and then the other would hit the top of the charts (absolutely unheard of before). And you can't believe the anticipation before each new album came out. Even the rinky-dink radio station in my little hometown played "Magical Mystery Tour" in its entirety the night it was released.

All I know is that I loved them 40 years ago when I was in junior high and high school. I still do. And now I have a 16 year old who disagrees with me about nearly everything else, but he loves the Beatles. He has the best of reasons to dislike them (the fact that his father likes them), but there he is in his room singing and playing along with them, wearing their T-shirts to school, etc. If anything, with the release of the albums on CD as they were originally intended by the Beatles, he knows all the lyrics better than I.

Bottom line: the world would certainly have been a poorer place without them. And it has certainly been a poorer place since we lost two of them far too early.

The Beatles were incredibly inluential, and many of rock's first are the beatles. They changed the rock landscape certainly. The only problem here is that I find a lot of their music to be very boring. Some is excellent....but a lot does nothing for me. Over all I prefer the Kinks. I think they had a more British feel....I like Ray Davie's lyrics a lot more then John lennon's....I prefer the guitar work. I wouldn't call the Kinks a better band....but I like them a lot more. I like the Stones as much..if not more...then the Beatles as well come to think of it. There are several bands I personally like more....Talking Heads being the top of the list. But you still have to credit the Beatles for paving the way for so much for so many. That being said....Dylan was just as influential....including influencing the beatles.....and far more gifted in writing lyrics.

Actually I had their first records and was there from the start..I liked it then and I still like a lot of it today but being the best .. I really don't think so ..Elvis and the Beatles started something new but for either to be considered the best its mostly personal opinion.I was in radio for years and years and years and played their songs and others.. as personal favorite I don't think I could be swayed with any group there are too many wonderful artist always have been and always will be..

During the 60s and 70s, they were the most well-known and supported band in the world. Their music in those days are different from what we have now. During those days, the musical instruments are not that advance but their music are evergreen. Many of us still enjoy their music when they are played on the radio, and they are still better than many musicians who pale when compared to them. As to whether they are the best, it depends on individual. Some like their music, some don't. But The Beatles will always be part of our history.

They were the pioneers of their time. Nobody was doing what they did. What they were doing was unheard of, and it still stands today. Like them or not, the fact is that everybody in the world knows who the Beatles are and they haven't had an album in 30 years.
Some, if not all of them have been Knighted by the Queen.
I would say that they made a cometlike impact on the world.

i dont care what anyone says id say they WERE the best. its easy to see why they can be an influence to some other artists out there (like Drake Bell) idk if id say they are the best now because itd be hard since Drake and the Beatles are similar. to be honest i couldnt tell you who is better. but they are one of the best...i guess they would be the best non-modern artists.

yes they did drugs but alot of people do drugs these days. it really doesnt matter because it does not take away from the quality of their music. alot of their songs i can relate to, its amazing! and what they represented was peace and love..which is a wonderful thing. so many of their songs had a good message.

although i also like Elvis too but in a way, i think theyre better than Elvis. more wholesome music..well idk i guess theyre not comparable to Elvis either. it would depend on what youre looking for: what kind of music you like and what subject matter you enjoy..that kind of thing. theyre alot of good artists out there so theyd be one of the best.

they are definitely the most influential though..

this is more of an opinion question so i cant give you a good answer really. theyre my fav band and i listen to them as much as i do Drake..if not more (which is a whole lot)

I think they could be considered the best. They set the standard for a lot of bands and have more popular, recognized, and successful songs and albums than any other artist ever.

Right. I like the Rolling Stones much better. Some guy sometime said something like this: "The Beatles want to hold you hand. The Rolling Stones want to burn your town."
Yeahhhhh baby!
Rock on.

I was just listening to one of their CDs and yes, they really were the best. There have been better musicians and better singers, but they just had the "IT" factor. Why else would people still be listening to them? It's hard to pinpoint but they were fun to listen to and even more fun to watch. Elvis also had that special something that sets certain entertainers apart from the rest. We love them, yeah, yeah, yeah...
