I have never heard anything like that, and I try to keep up with the latest research.

However, there is a corelation between formula feeding and SIDS. Breastfeeding greatly reduces the SIDS rate. One theory is that since breastmilk is more easily digested, the babies tend to sleep more lightly and wake up more often to nurse. Formula-fed babies tend to sleep more deeply and, if they have breathing problems, just do not wake up in some rare cases. So I can see that it's possible that feeding solids to babies too early could increase the risk of SIDS, but I'm pretty sure that no research has been done on that question.

The general rule of thumb is that before four months the baby should have only formula or breast milk. After four months you can introduce cereal if they have neck control but ideally you should try and wait until 6 months.

That's incorrect mainly because breastfeeding is actually better for your baby. Breastfed babies are less likely to die from SIDS than formula-fed babies. So feeding something other than formula can actually HELP your baby.

That doesn't mean your baby will die if you formula-feed, but your statement about formula reducing SIDS is completely incorrect.

Other ways to reduce the risk:

Put your baby to sleep on it's back.

Do not add pillows, toys, animals, or blankets to the crib until your baby is at least 1 year old.

Do not smoke. Smoking greatly increases the SIDS risk.

There is no guaranteed protection from SIDS...but there are ways to reduce risk.

my daughters had cereal from one week old and is now 6 months and as healthy and fat as a horse lol..keep them on there back though it decreses the risk.
