In theory, you can breast feed forever as long as the milk's being used, the body makes more.
After puberty though, it's a little suspect.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends until AT LEAST 12 months old the World Health Organization recommends until 2 yrs (keep in mind that they take places where there is not enough food or good water). I breastfed both my boys and they both just kinda lost interest around 15 months (I was aiming for around 18 months-2 but they had other ideas). You can and should breastfeed for as long as possible (two years in the course of your lifetime meaning maybe over several children greatly reduces you chances of breast cancer, besides, its great!) The fact that she can't properly digest formula says that she just needs her momma's milk for a good long while now.
Great Job and Best Wishes

Breastfeeding your baby is the best possible thing you can do for your child - breast milk contains EVERYTHING your baby needs and more. You can even protect your child against catching diseases by breastfeeding as you actively give your child your own anti-bodies trough your breast milk and so boost your child own immune system. You can breastfeed exclusively - that is without giving any other foods and even fluids - up to the age of 6 months. But you then have to breastfeed the child at least 8 times in a period of 24hours and even more if the child wants to and for as long as the child wants to. When the child reaches 6months you have to start giving additional feedings of vegetables, fruit and protein - but go and consult a doctor or even a nurse when your child reaches that age so that they can give you a detailed outset of what you should feed the baby. But you can continue breastfeeding for as long and as many times as the child wants to even though the child takes in other foods and fluids by then.

The longer the better.
There are benefits for as long as you can do it. They don't disappear just because your baby hits some random age. (People on here tend to give totally arbitrary ages to wean, with no real evidence to back it up.
)
You can and should breastfeed as long as possible and is desirable by both mother and child. My daughter nursed for 3.5 years and my son is 23 months and still nursing. it is so good for their health, immune system and bonding.
The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for the first 2 years. Solids can be added when a baby shows readiness after 6 months of age, but breastmilk is needed for AT LEAST the first year of life.
Full fat milk is needed for the first 2 years for optimal brain development and human milk just happens to be the ideal milk for human children!!!!

hi, you can breastfeed as long as you have milk and bub is happy at the breast.I bottle fed my first two, then made up for it by breastfeeding my youngest until he was turning 3.
From the age of 18 months i only fed him to go to sleep or if he really needed comfort ,say he had fallen and hit his head or something like that.
IF she is having trouble keeping formula down, then I would feed until at least 9 months. After that the babies stomachs seem to be less sensitive, but with some it's 15 months before they really tolerate milk products well.

I think it's wondeful that you have chosen to breastfeed your baby!
You can breastfeed as long as you'd like or until your daughter self weans. It is reccomended to breastfeed for at least a year, though I have known mothers to go 2 years or longer.

My baby is 9 mths now, and still breastfed. I started brestfed her once she born. I gave her only brestfed for 6 mths without formula milk or extra food. When she was 7 mths yo I gave formula milk and extra hand-made food. i give her more brestfed than formula milk (eventhough I'm working). I plan to brestfed untill 2 years age of her. My doctor said that my program was right, it helps my baby goes stronger, healthier, smarter, and tighten the bonding between me and her.

The age of 15 moths you should be able to breast feed. But if you breast feed now it can be dangerous to the baby since she can't keep it down. and she might choke. you should breast feed her when shes older than a year. not at 3 weeks.

I breastfed my first daughter for 13 months and the second for 14 months. It was a great experience and I felt I did a lot of good for them!

You can breasfeed as long as you want. After awhile it may become a social issue with you. For example when your child can talk and they are asking for your breast in public and such. But as long as they are nursing you will continue to make milk. Otherwise it is all up to you.
