You obtain the magnet element from the second battle with the Grim Reaper in port royal giving you Magnera. Oh and just so you know you have to defeat Ground shaker in the pridelands in order to get Thundaga. You'll know what i mean when you get kicked out of Atlantica again......

I forgot which world you defeat, but it will come automatically after beating a certain world. Don't worry about it. Just continue enjoying the game and continue on, it'll come soon. ;D

You get it after you beat a boss. (That boss is either in Holloween Town or Agriba.)

well if i remember correctly, you will automatically get magnera after completing other mission or acquired certain levels..
