The wedding rings are signs of commitment but the engagement ring is more like ownership. Why should i wear a ring stating that im off the market if the male has no symbol at all. To make a long story short my fiance wears an engagement ring too.

Alot of women I know who aren't married use them as deterrents when they go out as well. Also they are a symbol of commitment between two people. Later in the relationship some people see them as marks of ownership, but those people run the risk of getting the ring hurled at them or seeing said ring in a pawn shop..... Alot of people see marriage as mutual ownership by definition instead of what it is. A commitment to each other to remain with that ONE person and not to share physical or emotional love with any other non-related individual.

I tossed my ring, when I realized my husband wasn't intending on honoring his vows, therefore, the ring had no significance. Rings signify a promise. The promise is 2 sided, to love, honor, and care for you, and to be there for you.
Ownership may be perceived or real in many countries where women /men with ownership mentalities.
Symbollically, we belong to each other in marriage. It this equal exchange is not felt, or responsibility realized, another good reason to toss the ring.

to me they symbolize commitment. They are a sign of a bond shared between 2 people that is supposed to be like the ring.. never ending. They also are a statement to others saying you are in love and committed to one man/woman.

I think of them as a symbol of commitment and ALSO a symbol that you're (or they're) unavailable.
Maybe some people think of them as a symbol of ownership, but those people are unfortunately insecure.

I never wear my rings neither does my husband we both work with our hands and it is not practical So I never really thought about it The rings were for the ceremony and a token of our vows to one another. our commitment needs no symbolic trinket we live it every day.

I look at my wedding ring as a symbol of my husband's unending love.
I dont look at it as ownership - afterall the ring is on my hand - not in my nose! :)
