Between 4 and 5 months, giving cereal before that does not help and does not help your baby sleep. He or she will give you cues when they are ready (opening mouth when you are eating, sucking on fingers while you are eating). I started my son on cereal at about 3 months, he has now developed diabetes, its not worth the risks to start earlier.

Your baby will let you know. Usually around 4 months. The baby will be interested in your food and watching you eat. For the next couple of months, food will be for fun. Cereal and mushy foods will be for the experience, the taste adn texture and practice. The baby will still get almost all of his/her nutrition from breastmilk (or formula). Remember that food should only come from a spoon, and only expressed milk (or formula) should come from bottles or cups, this rule helps baby develop safe and healthy eating practices.
Have fun and wear clothes you don't like!

around 4-6 months. Earlier than that, your baby's digestive system can't tolerate cereal, only formula or breastmilk. Feeding a child too early can actually make it easier for them to develop food allergies.

too soon and the baby will just push it out with his little tongue, because he isn't ready for the cereal. He will let you know as he begins to take interest in you when you eat and seems to be hungry all the time and not satisfied with the bottle. Too soon can lead to allergies and constipation.

If your baby is perfectly satisfied with milk and sleeps through the night, I wouldn't give cereal yet. Babies can always develop allergies to foods before their digestive systems are fully developed.
If your baby is fussy and doesn't sleep well, then try some rice cereal.

Cereal calls for the baby to have outgrown the thrust action (pushing stuff out with it's tounge), to hold up it's head on thier own, and to sit up with support. I started my daughter on it at about 3 and a half months and she loves it. it really doesnt help them sleep though. my daughter gets hers for lunch.

Usually at four months or so. As far as time of day goes, most moms give some before bed thinking it might help the infant sleep longer through the night.

The AAP is now recommending that solids not be started until 6 months. There is some new evidence that starting before 4 months can be harmful.

Not before a month old anyway. But after that just give it at bedtime and around 3 orf 4 months start giving it at each meal. A little trick put some baby fruit with it your baby will be very happy you did.
