I've pulled a muscle in my lower back. I've put mineral ice on it (Ben-Gay) & wondering if its better to sleep on the couch or the bed.

In bed it will give your back more support if you dont want to go to bed try lying flat on the floor.

Which is firmer? You may even want to try the floor. When my back is very sore the floor is the only place I can sleep.

In addition to the BenGay you can put some ice on it, if it's more than 24 hours since you've hurt it you can go back and forth alternating ice with heat. You can also take some ibuprophen to decrease inflammation. Alieve is a good one. You don't have to take it as often.

Back injuries are the worst, there are just so many nerves traveling through there. Hope you are better soon. If the pain persists, you can get a prescription for a muscle relaxer from your doctor. Flexerol helps a lot.

Boy, I've been struggling with lower back pain for years, each time it flares up I seem to have to find a different set of techniques that help get me through the episode. I've found that the bed works best for sleeping but you may have to play around with what position works best for you. Probably don't want to sleep on your stomach. I also find that laying on the floor with a heating pad gives me some relief along with gentle stretching. Often times this back pain can be associated with muscle imbalance in the body, for me its usually my legs. Good luck..

Definitely a bed. You need all the support you can get and not on the floor unless you are use to sleeping on the floor, thus your back muscles are use to it.

In addition to your Ben Gay, be sure to take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen for a couple days.

the bed, because the couch will not give you the support that you need.
