I have this persuasive essay that's due tomorrow and I don't know how to start it. I know what I am going to write about since my teacher gaves us about three options (The one I chose was, "Should College basketball players be paid?"). So, if you have any suggestions, it'll really help out. Thanks to whoever answers. :)

Start off by comparing an NBA player's lifestyle with that of a college basketball player. Something along the lines of:

Shaquille O'Neal's day is very different than Joakim Noah's. Both play basketball for elite teams, in elite leagues, against elite competition, but for different reasons: Shaquille plays to make a living while Joakim plays to hopefully one day make a living like Shaq (and maybe on the way get a college education). There are other similarities and differences between the two stars, but of interest to us in this paper today is whether Joakim should get paid for putting spectators in seats just like Shaq does. (This should get you started).

Hope this helps.

well, first off why do you feel they should be paid? write down your reasons and then support for each reason

in your opening paragraph, begin by making a statement. some people like a fancy opening line like, "Students who play basketball in college are faced with the difficulty of choosing between their school work and team work."

then you can go on to say how the extra money eases the pressure to finish college on time. if students want, they can stay in school for 5 years and take courses at a slower rate while keeping up their play on the court.

I don't know how you want to argue this, but it's up to you to get going, you don't have much time left! (P.S. have someone proofread it when you're done)

Should infants be fed? Should crops be nurtured? Should environments be respected? What incredulous questions! Ludicrous! It is as if asking if a college basketball player should be payed, of course! It is no question that college basketball players should be paid. They work as hard to earn their skill as a college chemist to earn her knowledge, or a college smith to learn his trade. Revenue is exchange for expression of art, be that art knowledge, expressive art, or skill. Basketball is indeed expressive, and is inarguably, a skill! The point can be proven thus: Can any man play basketball? On your first weeks of playing, were you good at basketball? By all means, no! That is because it takes skill, and skill requires pay. So what if the players are in college and are playing for fun? Manet too was in the course of education as he drew, and he too did it for himself. Did he not deserve pay?

and so on and so forth. good luck.

I would ( I used to write persuade speeches in college this way )
with a scenario... you paint a picture for in this case your reader, of a player.
Since you are pro, you want to show the realities of the money involvement in college sports...
I would most certainly use the angle of how many leave college early for pro careers, honestly before they are ready for the pros.. which hurts both college and professional sports.
But create a player, and create a scenario.

first of all, make a statement thats very broad...like mention the whole world of sports and how much effort these players put into their stuff. then talk about the college players and then make your point that they should be paid and for these three reasons...

It would help if u stated what side of the argument u r going to represent in your paper....

And no!!! They should NOT be paid! Academia is or rather should be the reason why collage players should not be paid...

Well you need to pick a side. Do YOU think they should be paid? Why, or why not? Then support your take on it using strong supporting points. Get to work.
