It's a site for lesbians (and to a much lesser extent, for bisexual women and MTF transexuals) run by a lesbian couple in Germany.
They have over 100,000 members, and although the site is run from Germany, a substantial chunk of their membership is American women. They have stats for where everyone is from, and substats for Americans, broken down by state. That way, you can send a message to just people in your state if you want.
Oh, and the site is free.

try connexion.org or go to your local glbt center and volunteer. if you're looking for lesbians you could also volunteer at the local animal shelter.
