That would assist me in my quit-smoking spell. Some ideas I have are eucalyptus leaf, blessed thistle and fennel seed. I would like to make an incense of some choice herbs and would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks. :)

The first reply is very rude.

Consider Rosemary which is a protection from sickness. And Thyme for strength, courage, and bravery.

As already said, remember that these are tools. They have no real use in and of themselves but only serve to help YOU find the focus and strength to allow you to overcome your addiction.

Try menthol flavored gum whenever you need a nicotine fix.

Its not actually an herb, but it might work for you...

You could use tobacco.
Burn a cigarette into a baby food jar full of water(or just crush one in the water without burning), and use this in your ritual. Use it as a ritual tool, then keep it somewhere you will see everyday.
Every time you feel like you need a cigarette, shake the baby food jar and look at it. GROSS! It worked for one of my coven mates and she has been smoke free since this time last year.

As far as incense:Thyme would work to strengthen your resolve.
Sipping any tea that you like, especially chamomile, will also help when you have a craving.

"No, it;s the Food and Drug Administration...which aren't "fundies"...trying to keep people from killing themselves from taking bad advice. Also, herbalsim and homeopathy are two different things. "

You mean the idiots who allowed Bayer Drug Company to practically get away with murder by giving children(in Third World Countries) with blood thinning issues drugs tainted with HIV? Ooops. I thought they were trying to HELP people?! They are fallible like everyone else buddy, all in da moolah. Don't ya love drug recalls?... And any drug can cause a problem, natural or man made, even IF it's used properly. So don't act like we have "safe" prescription drugs. Even Pepto, despite it's friendly pink color and pleasant taste, can cause a Sh*t load of problems in certain cases...(Pun? Maybe.) Read the label.

Anyway, this was about Incense, correct? I'd go with a Firey or Water based herbal incense, to clean out the system. Planet should be Mercury. Then make another for Air, to put clean air in the system. This is all speculation, you can try if you want. So, Here's some examples:

Clean the system: Fire\Mercury

Frankensense 3 parts
Dragon's Blood 2 parts
Thyme 1 part

Or Water, Use Myrrh and Sandalwood in place of the first two ingredients.

Air, which is good for freedom:

Arabic gum
Lemon Verbena
Lemongrass or Lavender

Make it during a waxing moon, all of it, during the proper Days and Hours and avoid VoC Moons. And Good Luck! :)

EDIT: If someone wants to use magical means to get better, by all means they can. You call yourself an ex-occultist. If so, you know the drill: You shape your universe, and magic is one of those tools of the will. ;) Thanks for the thumbs down, badge of honor. BTW, We still use medicines that cause problems. You've seen those commerials on TV. Why use them when we know they cause problems?

Try Dragons Blood incense. They have been shown to stimulate the same parts of the brain as smoking (which leads it to be used as an aphrodisiac too...) and might help. Plus Dragons Blood as a magical ingredient (not from actual dragons mind you, from a plant) is supposedly quite potent. I would also try any scents that are found to be relaxing as it would help calm the person down hopefully without resorting to nicotine. Plus, in many Asiatic religions the prayers of the faithful were carried to the Heavens on the incense smoke, so praying to deities or spirits might not be a bad idea either.

The herbs have some effects, however for what you are doing there are no real herbs that equate to that in particular.

Use things to either mask the smell of it on others (such as sage of course) or use others to simply remind you of what you're doing and why. I quit eight days ago..... washed everything I owed and cleaned out everything that I had smoked in.

I use powerful incenses to put a different smell on everything and have not been tempted once.

I found this for you - not as an incense, but steeped in an oil instead. Almond oil would likely make the best base for it. Consult a local health food store as to the best form of each for steeping into an oil.

"Cleanse and Calm Formula

The first ingredient is Oats, which nourishes your nerves. Lobelia has been used for years to help break nicotine addiction and helps to detox nicotine from your body. Cayenne pepper is used to cleanse your blood and raise your energy level (it is a stimulant). Licorice root is added to boost the performance of the rest of the formula. Licorice aids in digestion. What good is taking something if it is not absorbed? Ginger aids in absorption too and synergizes the formula (makes all the ingredients work better. It also acts as a stimulant. (Once you quit smoking, you find yourself dragging.) Nutmeg is added to help detox the nicotine and finally you have Kava Kava which calms your nerves.

Next, for when those overwhelming cravings hit you, you have the aromatherapy concoction to breathe in. Personally I never used it (or needed it). But I do enjoy the feelings I get when I warm up a few drops rubbing my palms together and then take in a big whiff. "

For aromatherapy, she suggested this as well - "we recommend you purchase live essential oils of Ylang Ylang, Rosemary, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus and blend them yourself."

(Where I found it - http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/misc/smoke.htm)

As for a spell, well, the only real spell here is using willpower. Meditation is a good place to start with that. This person also suggested this- "In India, the form of medicine they have practiced for centuries is called Ayurveda. In Ayurveda medicine and thought, consciousness is healing. If you want a headache to go away, we normally try to "ignore" the pain. In Ayurveda, the patient focuses on the pain. Feels the pain. Concentrates on the pain. Consciousness is healing.

To quit smoking, in Ayurveda medicine, one sits still, turns off all outside stimulus, and focuses on that cigarette: tasting, feeling, breathing, being that cigarette. Feel the smoke entering your lungs. Feel what it does. Feel the smoke as it enters your bloodstream. Feel and experience totally that cigarette.

This is a wonderful technique to use the last days of smoking. Know what it truly is to smoke a cigarette; what it does to your body. I used this technique for about two weeks before I quit. I used it at nite….meditating and smoking and focusing."

Brought up to control pain in that way - I never knew what it was called before - I can tell you that it actually works exceedingly well. Worked through childbirth and post surgery pain. (I don't like pain killers anyway - alter the mind too much)

All good suggestions.

If you still want to do a spell, go ahead - however, the spell works best when followed up with actual action on your part - and the above seems like excellent action plans.

Some people seem to have it all down pat, and give you a long-winded list of all the "awful" things that could cause harm, that are recommended as herbal remedies -NOT. None of the things mentioned above as being bad are things that have been recommended anyway. What would be the sense of denouncing the "remedy" of tying a dead cat around your neck, or drinking unicorn blood, if nobody has ever suggested those things to begin with? That's the fundie rhetoric used to put a negative spin on things like homeopathic remedies that actually do help. Pepto-Bismol might cleanse your system, but is never going to help anybody quit smoking. There's no "Culpepper's" book on my shelves, and none of my friends in the Craft use it.

As with all addictions it starts with you really wanting to quit the habit. If I could find my herbal books I might be able to find something. But off hand try some of the herbal smoking blends that are on the market.azzuregren.com sells some ready made. Some health food stores also sell them.
been answering to many questions on here and my libary is in a mess.
