i think we are about a generation away.. i am 33 and most of the people my age are just starting become ok with the idea.. my parent's generation are not too open either.
but the teenagers i talk to these days are much more open to sexuality in general.. they are ok with everything from being gay, bi, cross dressing, etc.. heck, they are very open about their own sexuality.. they are happy to share stories about masturbating..
10 years from now, these teens will grow up and start having kids.. and they will nurture values of tolerance and acceptance.. and then, the majority of the world will be completely comfortable with it.
the other good news, many celebrities have recently announced they are gay, and for the most part, the younger generation (the people who generally control pop culture) are happy and ok with it..

Hopefully Never! It's not okay to be gay just like it's not okay to have pre-marital sex or have lustful thoughts. The reason why society is accepting it more and more is because they are falling away from biblical teachings more and more. Society chooses to ignore directive and objective truths by believing in inderictive and subjuctive truths. Meaning its the individual self that dertermines what is right and wrong. This means that Gods laws to living are ignored!
But to answer your question, unless there is some new Chrisitian revival or some sort of reformation. Society as a majority will evenutally accpet homosexuality if American society continues to deny the teachings of the Bible.
Go ahead and say the Bible is outdated and things are different now, that's your perogative. But if you study culture, society, and history with and open mind its hard to say the Bible is outdated. The reason so many give that excuse is because following Biblical truth is much harder than doing what you want do without feeling the guilt and keeping a clear conscience. That is why we need a personal God who helps us with our sinful desires. We all have them, but we don't have to act on them, God will always provide a way out if you truely seek the will of God.
So if anyone is gay, I dont think debating whether you were born that way or not holds any relevance. I have the urge to lust for women, was I born that way? I don't care, I know its wrong and I shouldn't do it!

Now. I am gay and have not had any problems relating to it. Have lots of friends, loving family, etc. Only place I find such igorance is the questions asked by homophobes on here! Truthfully I believe it is 1) area of country you live in. 2) how big a deal that you make of it yourself. I basically just live my life. We run a successful business and have a good lifestyle.

The human race has a long history of shunning anything "different". We're afraid of those things we don't understand.
Unless homosexuals become the majority - which is an improbability, and impractical to the continuity of the human race - I don't think there will be total acceptance of an 'alternative' sexual lifestyle...

when no one can remember a time when homosexuality was generally considered to be either a definite choice or a mental disorder. So, we've got a while to go on that. but when everyone has grown up knowing that it's based largely on factors outside the person's control, we will be close to total acceptance.

The men and women who declare it is a option outline homosexuality by means of sexual conduct, no longer by means of orientation. This is why they declare a homosexual man or woman will also be "cured" by means of simply determining to quit having sexual relationships with men and women of the equal gender. Even in the event that they nonetheless desire to, they could now not be viewed "homosexual" by means of this definition. Once once more, men and women who recognise close to not anything approximately a field, feel they are professionals. If they did not shun homosexual men and women, they would observe that their definition of "homosexual" is fully fallacious.

Sometimes I feel like we live in the stone ages. People are scared of anything different. We have not gotten much smarter since the stone age. It is ok now for smart people. So to answer your question it will be ok with everybody as soon as stupid people are no longer born. So never I guess.

It will never be entirely accepted. Some people are small-minded. For example (but not comparison) some people still have backward ideas regarding different races and sex. There will always be something that is taboo to certain groups.
